About Food For Your Soul
I want to help you make better choices so you can live the life you're meant to. We can't be our best selves without taking care of ourselves. We all deserve to be our best selves. And, we are here because we are meant to be. To make the choices that will lead to your best health and self, you may need to learn how to eat, what to eat, how to get good sleep, reduce stress, and digest well. This means eating an earth-friendly, whole foods diet and making smart food choices like eating local and organic. I can teach you how to do this given your current lifestyle. I can help you integrate this into the life you have or want to have.
If you're not sure how to do it, but you really want to--- I can help. In fact, I'd love to. This is my passion; this is my purpose. I'm here to help people heal themselves by learning the best self care. The work I do with you will not only help you feel great, but it will be fun to do. It will energize and excite you, and it will feel meaningful. It will increase your confidence, your vitality, and you will expand your knowledge about your body, how to heal, and what's healthy.
I will help you learn from your own body. I will encourage you to enjoy food, eating, and to see food and life as sacred. I will provide lots of information about nutrition and healing if that's what you seek. This may include access to resources, handouts, a library, and email support between your sessions.
I will work with you in a very personalized manner, addressing not only how to eat and live a whole foods, earth-friendly way, but also I will help you with health concerns you have. As we work together, I will coach, teach, and counsel you on food, healing, and lifestyle. I will give you recommendations to follow in the form of action steps that will begin changing how you eat and live. You will benefit from my knowledge, experience, and my own healing journey. You will take actions that not only change your habits, but create permanent lifestyle shifts that shape who you are and who you want to be!
When I had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, I wasn't a healthy eater, though I thought I was. Compared to the average American I ate healthy. But, that isn't saying much. I still ate a lot of white foods, sugar, dairy, and drank coffee. I didn't eat enough vegetables, fruits, or nuts. I didn't eat mostly organic. I wasn't thoughtful about issues of organic, local, and genetically-modified. I didn't know about all the vast choices from CSA's, to Food CO-OP's, and farmer's markets. As I began my healing journey, I became increasingly interested in all aspects of healing and began making serious changes in my diet. I noticed significant changes and had profound insights.
Eventually, all this would lead (though very slowly) to me becoming a health coach. First, I would try another career, write my book about CFS (CFS is a Call For Soulwork), and try life as an author and an ESL teacher. It wasn't until I had healed CFS entirely that I was ready to work with people on their own healing.
In 2007, I graduated from IIN (The Institute for Integrative Nutrition), and began working with people on transforming their lives by changing their eating. I still do every day what I teach my clients to do. I make changes in my diet and constantly strive to improve my life and create the life I dream of. I believe in the tremendous power food has and see that everything in life comes back to food. Our relationships with each other, with ourselves and our bodies, our relationship with animals and the planet: these are all tied to what we eat and how we eat. When we take in and feed ourselves junk, we experience junky thoughts, feelings, and symptoms. As we pollute our bodies, we pollute the planet. The worst foods contain chemicals and ingredients that are polluting the environment; their packaging and processing create more pollution. The chemicals in the form of fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, antibiotics---it all goes into our waterways, into the soil, and back into our bodies and in the bodies of animals. What we eat not only affects how we treat ourselves and the planet, but it affects how we think and how we behave. What and how we eat is an expression of how we live.
On the positive side, I continue to be in awe of the power of food as a healer and the power we each have in healing ourselves. I have healed myself from a very difficult, complex chronic illness (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), and I have written about my healing journey. Many of the principles contained within my book, I apply to my work with you.
